ERWAT’s Annual Reports provide a transparent account of how we manage wastewater services, safeguard the environment and utilise public resources on behalf of our shareholders and communities. The 2023/2024 Annual Report reflects ERWAT’s continued commitment to reliable wastewater services and sound financial management:

• Strong service footprint – ERWAT operates 19 water-care works, treating approximately 856 megalitres of domestic and industrial wastewater per day, and up to 1 000 megalitres during the wet season.
• Revenue growth – total revenue increased to R1.624 billion, including R1.411 billion in service charges, supported by grants and development contributions.
• Positive financial results – ERWAT recorded a net surplus of R227 million while maintaining its status as a going concern with accumulated surpluses of R2.697 billion.
• Robust solvency – the solvency ratio improved to 0.16, and the current ratio increased to 6.35:1, reflecting a strong balance sheet, even as cash reserves declined to R111.7 million due to increased operational pressures.
• Progress on audit findings – ERWAT has made significant progress in addressing findings raised by the Auditor-General through targeted action plans, reinforcing its focus on compliance and continuous improvement.
