ERWAT proudly participated in Global Handwashing Day 2025, reaffirming its commitment to public health and hygiene. This year’s theme, “Clean Hands Are Within Reach,” underscored the critical role of handwashing in reducing disease and promoting safer communities.

Clean Hands: A Simple Act That Saves Lives

On 15 October 2025, ERWAT joined the global community in marking Global Handwashing Day, a worldwide advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of hand hygiene.

Clean hands are not only essential in preventing illness, but also play a vital role in supporting safe water use, sanitation, and sustainable public health.

At ERWAT, our message is clear:
Good hygiene starts with the simple act of washing hands with soap and water. It’s one of the most effective ways to reduce the spread of infections and protect vulnerable members of society.

Hand Hygiene Guidance Shared by ERWAT

To help spread awareness, ERWAT encouraged residents, employees, and communities to adopt the following handwashing practices:

  • Wash regularly, especially after using the bathroom, before eating, and when returning home.
  • Use clean, running water — stagnant water can carry bacteria.
  • Scrub with soap for at least 20 seconds, ensuring all parts of the hands are cleaned.
  • Protect yourself and others by promoting hand hygiene in public spaces, workplaces, and schools.

These practical steps align with ERWAT’s broader mandate of Excellence in Water Care, supporting public health through safe water management and sanitation infrastructure.

Why It Matters for ERWAT and Stakeholders

As a leading water and wastewater utility, ERWAT plays a pivotal role in delivering services that enable safe hygiene practices across households, schools, and healthcare facilities. By supporting Global Handwashing Day, ERWAT:

  • Reinforces its commitment to health-focused service delivery
  • Educates communities on the link between clean water and disease prevention
  • Supports local and national efforts to reduce the spread of communicable diseases

This initiative complements ERWAT’s ongoing public education and stakeholder engagement efforts, strengthening awareness of how water infrastructure supports everyday health.
